PCP : A Bandwidth Guaranteed Transport Service for IPnetworks
نویسندگان
چکیده
The increasing demand for a variety of new Internet services with diierent and possibly stringent QoS requirements (i.e. Internet Tele-phony, videoconferencing etc.) requires the design of mechanisms to support QoS guarantees. The current solutions proposed in IETF, RSVP (Resource reSerVation Protocol) and Diierentiated Services, though suitable for many applications, may result ineecient to support real-time services on a call basis. RSVP is not really scalable and requires substantial changes in the Internet architecture, while Diierentiated Services provide guarantees mostly on a static and permanent basis. In this paper we assume an Internet architecture supporting multiple priorities as needed in Diierentiated Services, and introduce PCP (Phantom Circuit Protocol), a mechanism that provides a guaranteed bandwidth transport service for circuit oriented connections. PCP includes a fully scalable Call Admission Control (CAC) and operates on a per call basis. Simulation of the protocol performance for CBR (Constant Bit Rate) traac under various network conditions show the adherence of the mechanism to theoretical expectations.

متن کاملVBR bandwidth-guaranteed services over DiffServ networks
PCP (Phantom Circuit Protocol) is a mechanism that provides a guaranteed-bandwidth transport mechanism in IP networks. It includes an effective Call Admission Control (CAC) protocol and operates on a per call basis, as in circuit switched networks. In this respect PCP presents the same capabilitiesas RSVP, but, unlike RSVP, PCP is fully scalable since the CAC procedure is completely distributed...
متن کاملQTS: a QOS-guaranteed transport system for broad-band multimedia communications
In this paper, we propose a quality-of-service (QOS)guaranteed transport system (QTS), which offers various QOS’s at the transport layer for broad-band multimedia communications. The QTS, composed of a bandwidth allocator and a transport protocol module, supports three classes of applications requiring different bit rates, delay sensitivity, and loss sensitivity. The bandwidth allocator intelli...
متن کاملA Core-Stateless Buffer Management Mechanism for Differentiated Services Internet
The IETF differentiated services (DiFerv) framework achieves scalability by moving complexity out of the core of the network into edge routers which process fewer number ofjlows. Recently, an end-to-end service called the premium service (PS) has been proposed under the Dimerv model to provide coarse grained guaranteed rate service. This paper presents a buffer management mechanism based on sim...
متن کاملEfficiency of Dynamic Pricing in Priority-based Contents Delivery Networks
A large amount of content is frequently delivered to users in contents delivery networks. The traffic for this content causes heavy congestion, especially during peak-usage hours. If the content is delivered on a best effort basis during peak-usage hours in a transport network, users cannot estimate the download completion time when they start using a service. This problem can be solved by prov...
